“Star Wars: Episode IX” To Film In July? Friday 7th April 2017

Both an old casting call from February and a new casting notice posted this week indicate that Colin Trevorrow’s “Star Wars: Episode IX ” is slated to begin shooting in July of this year.

My Entertainment World ran the new casting notice, and both remain unconfirmed at this point. It would fit though with the film slated to move right into Pinewood Studios in London just after the upcoming “Han Solo” spin-off film wraps. “Star Wars: Episode IX” is currently slated for 2019.

The report comes as Making Star Wars reports that Canto Bight is the name of a casino planet that will serve as the base for several scenes in Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. Justin Theroux and Benicio del Toro are said to be key to those scenes, the latter playing a character whose codename during production was ‘D.J.’.

Finally, new featurettes about “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” are out showcasing the virtual camera rig used by director Gareth Edwards to help craft shots along with a glimpse of just how many visual effects elements were added to a shot that you might not think had many.

Arnie Departing “Expendables 4” Without Sly? Thursday 6th April 2017

With Sylvester Stallone dropping out of the upcoming fourth “The Expendables” film, it looks like his co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger may be joining him.

Speaking with EW, Schwarzenegger says he’s not doing the film without Stallone:

“There is no ‘Expendables’ without Sly. I would never do the movie without him, no. I have not seen the script; I don’t even know if there is a script, even though they want to shoot in August again, like they usually do.”

Stallone is reportedly departing the franchise after he and Nu Image/Millennium chief Avi Lerner could not agree on the direction of the new film, including the movie’s director and script. Even if Stallone, who co-wrote the first three films with creator Dave Callaham, comes back around then Arnie isn’t a lock unless his character is done better than the previous film:

“You know, I think the first and second one were terrific. But, the third one, I thought my part was not written well. It was also not playing well in the movie, as far as I was concerned. Maybe other people believed differently. But I didn’t believe that I had any value in the movie. I love the franchise, by the way. I think it’s a spectacular franchise, ‘The Expendables.’ I think that Sly has good ideas, what he wants to do with it, and I think if they write a really good script [in] which my part is very well-developed, I would do it. If not, then I won’t do it.”

No specific dates have been set for the next “The Expendables” film to begin production.

Stallone Exits “The Expendables” Franchise Monday 3rd April 2017

Sylvester Stallone has withdrawn from taking part in the fourth installment of “The Expendables” franchise – despite it being the biggest upfront payday in his career with a salary over $20 million.

Deadline broke news of the departure, saying it came down to Stallone and Nu Image/Millennium chief Avi Lerner not finding common ground over various aspects of the film from director to script to visual effects.

Stallone and Lerner have disagreed in the past with the pair often eventually working out, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time. Lerner acknowledged the differences to the outlet but isn’t willing to give up yet:
“We’ve got disagreements with Sly, but we’ve had them for over a year and a half. Right now, each one has opinion. We agreed on 95% of things, but there are certain things in production we don’t agree on. I don’t think it’s over, but what write whatever you want. In my opinion, it’s not dead.”

Right now it’s not clear how Stallone’s exit impacts the film. Stallone co-wrote all the films and helmed the first one.
